WASHINGTON — President Trump has cancelled plans to livestream the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, in a decision unnamed sources in the White House Medical Unit attributed to an acute case of temporary sanity.

The episode, which aides say lasted roughly four hours Tuesday evening, was marked by a cluster of alarming symptoms: the president read an entire briefing document, asked about second-order consequences, and at one point said, “Let’s think about how this looks.”

“We were concerned,” one medical source said. “He asked what the victims’ families might want. That’s when we knew it was clinical.”

Doctors stress the condition is self-limiting and rarely survives contact with the president’s normal routine. “Temporary sanity presents as a brief window of conventional judgment,” said one physician familiar with the case. “Caregivers often find it distressing, because the patient is, for a few hours, unrecognizable.”

The execution will proceed as scheduled, officials confirmed, but without the production crew, the commentary team, or the commemorative streaming package. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, whose STRIKESTREAM missile-webcam program was unveiled the same week, described the cancellation as “a personnel health matter” and said he was “praying for a speedy recovery.”

Historians noted the cancelled broadcast would have been the first televised execution in American history, and that declining to televise it is, by any ordinary measure, an act of conventional presidential restraint — a fact his own medical team is treating as a symptom.

By Thursday morning, aides reported strong signs of recovery. The president was shown a map of Scandinavia, circled a capital city at random in black marker, and demanded to know why he had never been given a prize. “He’s back,” one relieved official said.
